Philadelphia City Guide

We’ve been anticipating the opening of our Philadelphia location for months, and it’s finally here! A few miles from our office, this BHLDN is tucked into Anthropologie in downtown Center City. We’re excited to share our list of “musts” in the city of brotherly love.

Where to Stay:
Two hotels offer easy access to all of the sites and restaurants. Stay at the luxury Rittenhouse Hotel for gorgeous views of Rittenhouse Park. Make reservations for high tea or their epic Sunday brunch. The modern Palomar Hotel, a few blocks away, is pet-friendly and offers guests coffee service in the morning and happy hour in the evening.

Where to Eat:
Donut lovers can start their morning with a warm Strawberry Lavender donut from Federal Donuts, open until they run out. Visit Metropolitan Café and Bakery for baked eggs, breakfast sandwiches, and house-made French-style pastries.

As lunch nears, check Dizengoff’s Instagram for their daily hummus specials. They make their hearth-baked pita on premises. Stop by Bud and Marilyn’s for upscale comfort food; their Fontina and Chard Stuffed Meatloaf is not your Mom’s meatloaf. V Street crafts vegan street food with an international twist. Even non-vegans love their Korean Fried Tempeh Tacos.

Pizzeria Vetri serves our favorite wood-fired pizza. Start with the pistachio-dusted rotolo and end with the Nutella pizza. While Chinatown has its fair share of ramen places, we love Cheu Noodle Bar’s hipster spin on their homemade bowls. Don’t miss their dumplings.

For happy hour that stretches into dinner, head to El Rey. Margaritas and $1 happy hour tacos could fill you up, but save room for their chorizo-laced nachos. Talula’s Garden serves local, seasonal fare in a romantic setting. Order their cheese board—sharing is optional.

Magpie Artisan Pie specializes in pie—sweet and savory—and you can get them by the slice. Their Butterscotch Bourbon is always perfect. If you venture to Old City, stop by The Franklin Fountain. It’s an old-fashioned ice cream and soda parlour that makes everything in-house. Split the Mt. Vesuvius, their version of a brownie sundae.

Where to Drink:
La Colombe is known for their Philly-roasted, single-origin coffee and impressive tea program; their Vanilla Draft Latte has a cult following.

Tria Café is perfect for daytime sips and shared plates. Order one of their “zippy whites” or “friendly beers” to go with the Truffled Egg Toast. At night, slip downstairs to The Franklin Bar for inventive cocktails in a cozy speakeasy setting.

Where to Shop:
BHLDN is located on Walnut Street, the premiere shopping street in Philly. You can spend all day browsing brands such as Free People, Urban Outfitters, Lush, and Lululemon. Head to Omoi Zakka, a quirky Japanese-inspired shop for cool stationery, pens, and jewelry. Art in the Age in Old City has Warby Parker glasses for try-on and specialty spirits and bar gadgets for cocktail nerds.

What to Do:
A trip to Philly isn’t complete without a visit to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, but some argue a run up the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is just as important. Check out the nearby Barnes Foundation for post-impressionist and early modern art, including pieces by Monet and Matisse.

Snap a picture in front of the LOVE statue at Love Park and then venture down to the Navy Yard to get a peek of the URBN (and BHLDN!) campus. Grab a snack at Jharoka, their vegan café, located in a renovated shipping warehouse (there’s even a koi pond!).

Rent an Indego bike or jog along the Schuylkill River Banks for breathtaking city views. During the summer, they offer free yoga. Afterwards, head to Rescue Spa for pampering and expert facials.
