We have been admirers of Cécile Boccara and her perfect halos for so long now, a chat and look around her Paris studio (albeit through the magic of email) seems way overdue.
Hi Cécile! Your hairpieces and all of your accessories are so lovely and magical, we were wondering what your workshop looks like?
Our workshop looks like an old attic. It’s actually a notion store in a beautiful 1870 covered market.. a dream for a child, a nightmare for a perfection maniac.
When you were a child did you think you would become an accessory designer?
As a little girl, I knew I wouldn’t be a car mechanic or a piano tuner. I played and worked a lot with my hands, but I didn’t know I could make a lifetime of work out of that passion.
What book, art piece, or person is most inspiring to you right now?
Swing dancing from the movie Hellzapoppin‘, Billy Holiday with the enormous camelias in her hair, Lina Baretti, and the book Grand Oriental Hotels from Cairo to Tokyo.
Where do you search for the objects and materials you work with?
From our classic suppliers (Swarovski, Sostiss lace…), at the flea market in Clignancourt, and at Drout auctions.
Where is your favorite place to escape in Paris?
Deyrolles, Luxemburg Gardens
Outside of Paris?
Fontainebleau Forest, Marrakech, Taghazout in Morocco
Thank you Cécile Boccara! À tout à l’heure.
