We recently held a photo shoot at the inimitable Palazzo Margherita by Francis Ford Coppola in Bernalda, Italy. The experience was so other-worldly, we thought it best to hear the details directly from the team members that made the magic happen. Our creative director Tracy and stylist Becky give us a behind-the-scenes glimpse below…

“I stayed in the Sofia Suite. [ed note: Yes, named after the one-and-only Sofia Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola’s daughter.] It was enchanting and tranquil. Fresco paintings made it feel like you were in a gazebo. Cool, soft tones were throughout and a beautiful wrap-around balcony overlooking the courtyard; the smell of lavender lingered from the garden below. Also, the bathroom was the best! It had the most amazing cobalt blue and white tiles with pale pink walls, dripping with marble slabs.” – Tracy, creative director

“As we put together each outfit, we looked to the rooms for inspiration; rich textures, patterns, and gorgeous layers.” – Becky, stylist

“We witnessed Italian hospitality at its finest in Italy. After befriending some locals, our crew was invited into their homes for a several-course dinner, and we ended the night with a limoncello at Fabrizia, the grandmother’s home. A former actress, she even ended up in a few of the shots!”
– Tracy

“We also shot in Matera, the land of rooftops and one of the most ancient towns in the world—so old, there are still visible caves from cavemen. This place was MAGIC in every way; I’ve never seen anything like it. I felt such incredible energy here and was inspired by the remarkable tones of the architecture, all built of stone from the mountainside. Also: narrow winding streets, stone walkways, and an unexpected little window that would a lead to a magnificent overlook.” – Tracy

“All of our meals were amazing, but the standouts were the creamy burrata and mozzarella, and the olive oil. The oil was so fresh and vibrant, it was like nothing I’ve ever tasted!” – Becky

“The experience was MAGICAL, infectiously inspiring, delicious. It’s down in the books as one of my all-time favorite shoots, thanks to an incredible team. [ed. note: The image above was painted by our lovely model, Zuzu.]” – Tracy
