Founder of The Glamourai, a site that’s equal parts fashion zine and travel journal, Kelly Framel has long-inspired us at BHLDN with her tailored-bohemian sartorial sense. We invited her and longtime love Zach to a photo shoot where she styled five date-ready looks that we think you’ll adore. Their chemistry is seriously amazing, so in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we had to ask them a few questions about their relationship…
How did you two meet?
KELLY: It’s a funny story. We actually went to high school together in Austin, TX, and knew of each other, but definitely weren’t friends. Years later, we were both living in New York City and spending lots of time in Montauk; my mom kept sending emails trying to connect us, but I ignored them. Then, one winter weekend I was staying at my friend Athena’s house in Amagansett. Zach had a house nearby and [Athena and he] were friends. He came by that weekend for a dinner party, and I was a goner right off the bat. Mom should have attached pictures to her emails!
And you’ve been together…
KELLY: 3 years and 10 million lifetimes.
First date details, please!
KELLY: Technically I guess it was the night we met. After dinner, we sat outside by the fire and talked until the sun came up. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
When did you first know you were in love with each other?
KELLY: I knew the moment he walked through the door. Zach took another three months to come around — but I didn’t play it cool for a second.
Your favorite thing about each other?
KELLY: Zach leads with love in everything he does and everyone he interacts with. He also has a rare ability to find fun in anything, and to make me laugh when I’m at my lowest. But the best part is that his love for me is so big — he puts in the hard work of standing up to my flaws, helping me find and become a bigger, better, stronger version of myself. That’s a level of love I’ve never experienced before, and it transcends mere romance.
ZACH: Kelly’s creative intelligence is something that I find truly inspirational, beautifully life-altering, and frankly very sexy. It’s an incredible gift that is manifested daily through our homes, travels, and in our work. We’re fighting to design our own rules for the life we lead—and I respect the hell out of Kelly for meeting that challenge in big ways and small. Of course it doesn’t hurt she’s as pretty as partners in crime come.
Kelly, you’re an amazing(!) stylist — how would you dress the outfits down?
KELLY: I love wearing flats with an evening gown, or simply throwing a black blazer over my shoulders to tone down the glitz. But honestly, I prefer being overdressed than casual!
Zach, your favorite look of the day on Kelly and why
ZACH: The white jumpsuit is brilliant. It matches Kelly: glamorous, adventurous, confident, and commanding.
…and, your first thoughts when you saw her in that look…
ZACH: Everyone else OUT!
Your best advice on love/relationships
KELLY: I think Elizabeth Gilbert said is better than we ever could: “People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.”
The best relationships take a lot of work, but it’s the results of that work which makes them so deeply beautiful.
ZACH: Make it fun!
